About Our Neighborhood Watch
Our neighbors have developed a phone tree where if there is a natural disaster such as an earthquake, we want to be able to contact neighbors to see if they need help. The phone tree will be expanded to include as many neighbors as possible.
As our homeowners walk the neighborhood, they often check to make sure garage doors are closed, and if not, they knock on the door and notify their friend and neighbor. We have a number of police officers living in Sunset Downs and Dawson Creek as well as members of the sherrif's office.
Emergency Preparedness
Emergency Preparedness is so important for homeowners to know what to do in the case of an earthquake, fire or other disaster as professional fire and medical responders may be unavailable
Training in basic disaster skills will help lessen the impact on families and neighbors until assistance arrives. Emergency Preparedness can orient neighbors on what to do, who to call, location of emergency services and how to care for a neighbor or family member who may have been injured.
Our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offers training which is free to anyone who lives or works in the City of Hillsboro; CERT is "Neighbors Helping Neighbors". The 24 hours of instruction can provide a trained volunteer work force in our neighborhood.
The course consists of:
- Disaster Preparedness
- Disaster Fire Suppression
- Disaster Medical Operations
- Search and rescue priorities and resources
- CERT organization
- Disaster Simulation
The "neighbors helping neighbors" philosophy is a great incentive to get to know your neighbors, find out what special skills they have, and include them in CERT preparations and training.
CERT offers a way to better yourself. You will learn disaster survival skills in a fun and friendly atmosphere. CERT uses hands-on drills to reinforce your new knowledge. It's also more fun with a friend, so bring one along. Learn More ...
